Ecumenical Pilgrimage to the Holy Land 2023
The Holy Land is an important place of pilgrimage for Christians, where it is possible to tread in the footsteps of Christ, It offers the chance to bring the Gospel stories to life through the senses and to deeply consider the roots of our faith. Following a highly successful joint pilgrimage in 2020, the Archdiocese of Southwark and the Anglican Diocese of Southwark will be jointly hosting a pilgrimage to this special place in 2023 and you are invited to join them.

World Youth Day 2023: a Transformative Pilgrimage for Southwark Youth

Although it has not been possible to undertake any pilgrimages until very recently, due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, it is ordinarily a regular part of Catholic life. The Christian life is a journey towards God, and in this simple act of outward physical travel, whether on foot or by aeroplane, we inwardly seek to draw closer to Christ by putting time aside to consider our relationship with the Lord, and ask where he is leading us.

The Relics of St Bernadette UK Tour 2022

Lourdes & St Bernadette
In 1858 the French fortress town of Lourdes, situated on the Gave de Pau River at the foot of the Hautes-Pyrénées was home to around 4,000 inhabitants. This relatively poor area was home to Soubirous family, who had fallen on such hard times that they were living in one room, known as the 'Cachot' or former gaol of the town. The eldest daughter of the family was Marie-Bernarde, whom we now know as Saint Bernadette. She was just 14 years old when the Blessed Virgin Mary appeared to her at the Maissabelle Grotto whilst collecting firewood

A New Auxiliary Bishop for the Archdiocese of Southwark
On Monday 28 November 2022, it was announced that His Holiness Pope Francis has appointed Mgr Philip Moger as an Auxiliary Bishop for the Archdiocese of Southwark. A priest of the Diocese of Leeds for 40 years, Bishop-Elect Moger has, until now, been the Rector of the National Shrine of Our Lady of Walsingham in Norfolk.
Admission of Candidates for Ordination: Archbishop Wilson's Homily

The Season of Creation 2023: 'Let Justice and Peace Flow'
Pope Francis has written a letter for the Season of Creation, which commences on 1st September and draws to a close on 4th October; the Feast of St Francis of Assisi, Patron Saint of Ecology. The Holy Father has recently announced that the second part of his encyclical, Laudato si', will be published on this final day, in which he will exhort the faithful to "join our Christian brothers and sisters in the commitment to care for creation as a sacred gift from the Creator.”
