Clergy are of great importance to Southwark, from the beginning of their ecclesiastical formation and ordination to their retirement and ministry beyond active parish life.

The Diocese considers it has a duty of care to all clergy and is pleased to provide clear guidance on a range of issues, including welfare, accommodation and travel insurance.

Priests are encouraged to visit Clergy Matters on the Resource Centre for further information and guidance. It is also possible to access diocesan mailings, including the Ad Clerum.

Clergy wishing to set up a Resource Centre account may do so by contacting ICTsupport@rcaos.org.uk

The Ongoing Formation of Priests

Just as the Church welcomes the gift of an ordained vocation, so it also seeks to nurture each priest so that he can develop in ministry and be a beacon of Christ’s light for others.

Although the responsibility to continue ongoing formation past ordination is primarily the personal responsibility of each member of clergy, the Ongoing Formation of Priests (OGF) in Southwark seeks to assist priests in fulfilling this duty in a variety of ways, whether it be by providing a spiritual director, attending a day on evangelisation, going on retreat or learning more about the work of particular diocesan department.

Events have been postponed in the last year due to the Pandemic, but it is hoped that opportunities to meet in person may resume in 2022.

In the meantime, the OGF website contains a wealth of information of both interest and use to our clergy: https://ogfsouthwark.org.uk/
