Marriage Mass celebrated at St George’s

Canon Liam Gallagher, the Episcopal Vicar for Marriage & Family Life, led a Mass to celebrate marriage at St George’s Cathedral.
The Cathedral was packed with couples and families celebrating a range of anniversaries, some celebrating their first, while others were celebrating their 50th or 60th year of marriage.
In his homily, Canon Liam congratulated the special couples who came to celebrate milestones in their life together. Drawing on the Wedding at Cana, Canon Liam said Jesus used this miracle as a message for us about marriage. Canon Liam said: “in putting Himself right at the heart of it all, as the water changes into wine, so He has changed our whole understanding of marriage".
Explaining further, Canon Liam said:
“Wine represents celebration, it represents joy, it represents generosity. It shows God gives his grace abundantly, generously, to the point of overflowing in our hearts and into your hearts on your wedding day and into your married life”.
Many married couples attended with their children and grandchildren, with families delighted to celebrate their loved one’s anniversaries. For photos of the service, see the link below.
The annual Marriage Mass is a special service organised each year by the Marriage & Family Life Team. You can find out more about their work supporting families below.
