How you can give in Advent 2024

Ways to support Catholic charities this Advent

During Advent, we prepare ourselves to celebrate the birth of Christ. It's a time we should centre our hearts and mind on the Lord Jesus. It's a time where we can show our love of the Lord and the Gospel, by showing mercy and love to others.

One way we can show our mercy and love to others is by supporting charities who are helping those in need. If you are able to support charities this Advent, here are some Catholic charities you may consider donating to.

  • The Archbishop's Appeal. The Archbishop's Appeal invests in the missionary work of the Archdiocese throughout South London and Kent. This includes youth evangelisation and  clergy care and formation.
  • The Jesuit Refugee Service UK (JRS UK)  JRS has an Advent Appeal to fund services for homeless refugees. JRS UK’s hosting scheme and houses offer safety, allowing refugees to focus on their asylum cases and rebuild their lives. Their two houses and Hosts operate within our Archdiocese. They also provide legal advice, casework, and practical activities.

  • CAFOD's Advent Appeal. Supporting CAFOD's Advent Appeal will will help them to continue providing urgent support to families fleeing conflict in Ukraine, Gaza, Sudan and across the world.
  • Stella Maris Christmas Appeal. At Christmas, seafarers feel more alone than ever. Can you imagine working on the ocean throughout the cold, dark, long winter? Seafarers and fishers miss their families desperately. You can make their Christmas special this year, by sharing God's love and giving to a seafarer this Christmas.
