Around 60 people commissioned as Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion
On Saturday 3rd February 2024 at St George's Cathedral around 60 people were commissioned as Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion.
The Archdiocese of Southwark commissioned around 60 new Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion at St George's Cathedral.
The day was led by Bishop Paul Hendricks and Monsignor Gerry Ewing, with a day of reflection, adoration, reconciliation and Mass.
Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion play an important role in parish life, by helping the parish community by through distributing the Eucharist. This will often be during Mass but may also be taking Holy Communion to those in the wider parish community who are housebound due to health, age or disability.
Those commissioned came from all over South London and Kent, including: Barnes, Beckenham, Bexleyheath, Charlton, Forest Hill, Greenwich, Hayes, Hythe, Mottingham, New Malden, Nunhead, Richmond, Roehampton, Sevenoaks, Streatham, Thornton Heath, Tonbridge, Wimbledon, Woolwich, Worcester Park and the schools of St Thomas More School – Eltham and St Ursula's School – Greenwich.
