Archbishop John to schools: our greatest hope is the Lord Jesus
In a message to schools for the Year of Jubilee, Archbishop John Wilson says our greatest hope is the Lord Jesus
To mark the start of the Year of Jubilee for schools, Archbishop John Wilson has sent a message to schools encouraging pupils and staff to be hopeful of the promise of the Lord Jesus.
In his message, the Archbishop of Southwark spoke about the Jubilee’s theme, hope. Archbishop John said hope comes in many guises, whether hope for our own personal lives or something much bigger like world peace. But “our greatest hope”, the Archbishop said, “is the Lord Jesus and that’s why we need to turn to Him with our hopes”.
The Archbishop said we can participate in making our hopes a reality through prayer, which he described as a
“wonderful act of hope, which shows our faith and builds our love of Christ and all around us”.
Encouraging children and young people to take up acts of charity for the Year of Hope, the Archbishop said “Christ calls us” to be “active in our hope and our love and our faith”.
There will be lots of activities, events and ways to take part in the Year of Jubilee across the Archdiocese of Southwark this year. Archbishop John called on pupils and staff to take advantage of these wonderful opportunities by “taking part in as much as” they can, adding that by doing so people will see their “hope, love and faith grow”.
Concluding the message, Archbishop John said:
“By anchoring your lives in hope, by being hopeful of the promise of the Lord Jesus, you will become true pilgrims of hope”.
For Catholic schools in England and Wales, the Year of Jubilee officially launches on the 24 January 2025.
