175th Anniversary Mass: St George's Cathedral
At the beginning of July we celebrate the 175th anniversary of the solemn opening of St George’s Cathedral in Southwark.
A full schedule of events for the opening week of the 175th Anniversary celebrations can be seen below, but the principal celebration of the week will be Solemn Mass at 6 pm on Tuesday 4 July, at which Archbishop John Wilson will preside. The Apostolic Nuncio, Archbishop Miguel Maury Buendia, will impart a special blessing at the conclusion of the celebration.
Other highlights of the week include an address by His Eminence Piotr Wilczek, Ambassador of Poland to the Court of St James, who will offer an address on the legacy of Pope St John Paul II on Thursday 6th July 2023 at 6.30 pm in Amigo Hall, next to St George's Cathedral.
At this time of celebration and thanksgiving, the Dean of St George's, Canon Michael Branch, and Cathedral Clergy ask you to keep the life and work of St George's in your prayers: all are welcome to join them for Forty Hours of Devotion between 5.30 pm on Thursday 6th July and 9.30 am on Saturday 8th July.
