Since its establishment, the Commission has been working hard to realise Archbishop John Wilson’s desire to build communities based on the Christian mandate to “love one another” (John 15:12), and consequently avoid a “society that excludes and discriminates” around the archdiocese of Southwark.

As Archbishop John insists, “Discrimination tragically continues to cast an ugly shadow, not just overseas but also on our own doorstep. There is no place for racism in our world, our society or our Church because the fundamental, God-given dignity of every person is non-negotiable”.

In furtherance of the Christian mandate to “love one another” and the particular exhortation by Archbishop John, the Commission resolves to take this project to our communities by establishing operational hubs in schools, institutions and parishes throughout the archdiocese.

Led by Canon Victor Darlington, the Commission comprises committed women and men from the three geographical areas of the Southwark Archdiocese, namely, Southeast, Southwest, Kent and the Coastal Areas. In principle, while each person represents a lead in their respective Parish communities, s/he undertakes specific functions in the mission of cultural and racial inclusivity in the diocese.
