The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Southwark exists to proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ. As missionary disciples we seek to witness faithfully to the Catholic faith, in both word and action, bringing to life Christ’s commandant that we should love and serve one another. Our people are key to achieving this mission.  The Archdiocese covers the geographical area of all of London south of the Thames and all of Kent.  The Archdiocese has 175 parishes and 169 schools.

We are looking to recruit a HR Officer to join our busy HR department.  Reporting to the Head of HR, this is an exciting opportunity for a self-motivated and confident individual to make their mark and offers real career progression.

This is a genuine generalist role and incredibly varied.  It will involve all aspects of hiring and starting new employees including developing job descriptions, drafting and posting adverts and managing the response, support for interviewing, ensuring pre contract checks are undertaken properly and production of contracts and on-boarding; managing employee needs through training, development, performance appraisals and managing employee relations; ensuring all employees comply with organisational and legal procedures through the development and implementation of policies and procedures.

The ideal candidate will preferably be educated to degree level and/or have achieved at least  CIPD Level 5.  They will also have proven experience as a HR Generalist or HR Officer preferably within the not for profit sector.  Experience of working within a religious organisation would be an added bonus.  A comprehensive understanding of employment law and good practice is a must.  They must be fully competent with  IT, including Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Powerpoint) and virtual meeting software.  A good communicator at all levels is essential as is personal resilience and the capacity to work effectively and stay calm under pressure.

Based in Central London (near Waterloo station) with some home-working possible by local agreement, we would ideally like someone full-time but would consider part-time for the right candidate.  Starting salary £40,000.00 per annum to £45,000.00 per annum (pro rata for part-time) depending on skills and experience.  If you would like to apply or for more information please email HR@rcaos.org.uk by 11th September 2023.
