Parish celebrates 120 years
On 20 July 2026, Saints Simon and Jude, Streatham Hill, celebrated the 120th anniversary of the parish's founding in 1906 - marking the culmination of twelve monthly festivals held over the past year.
The anniversary Solemn High Mass was celebrated by Canon Victor Darlington, Episcopal Vicar for the Southeast, who reflected on the parish's history and commended its enduring spirit of welcome. Clergy from across the Archdiocese and beyond joined the celebration, alongside guests including the Mayor of Lambeth and representatives from education, the Armed Forces, the judiciary and the arts. Former parishioners and international visitors also travelled to be present.
Fr Valentine Erhahon, Parish Priest and Dean of Lambeth, thanked all who helped make the day possible, paying tribute to past and present parishioners and to the parish's generous benefactors. The Mass concluded with the sealing of a time capsule in the church wall.
Celebrations continued with a garden party, readings from the parish's new history book - which looks ahead to the parish's bicentenary in 2106 - and the launch of a commemorative wine. The day closed in the parish garden with a musical performance dedicated to all those the community has loved and lost.
The parish will gather again on Sunday 27 September to thank all who have supported its work in recent years.
