Over 500 gather for formation days in South East London
More than 500 Lectors and Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion came together across two Formation Days organised by the South East Area of the Archdiocese of Southwark, under the theme “Nourished by the Word, Sent with the Eucharist”.
The first gathering took place on Saturday 24th October 2026 at Bishop Thomas Grant School, Streatham, welcoming participants from the deaneries of Camberwell, Lambeth and Lewisham. The second was held on Saturday 31st October at the Capuchin Franciscan Friary, Erith, bringing together ministers from Bexley, Bromley, Greenwich and Woolwich.
Organised by Canon Victor Darlington, Episcopal Vicar for South East London, both days began with the celebration of Holy Mass, followed by talks, reflection and discussion, concluding with Exposition and Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament.

At Bishop Thomas Grant School, Fr Valentine Erhahon encouraged participants to reflect on the spiritual significance of their ministries, particularly the importance of compassion, humility and recognising the often-hidden struggles of those they serve.

At Erith, Fr Alfred Ebalu explored the relationship between Sacred Scripture and the Eucharist, reminding participants that proclaiming God's Word and assisting in the distribution of Holy Communion are sacred responsibilities rooted in a personal relationship with Christ.
The gatherings provided a valuable opportunity for prayer, fellowship and spiritual renewal, while recognising the dedication of those who serve faithfully in parishes throughout South East London.
Canon Victor expressed his gratitude to all who attended, the speakers, host venues and volunteers whose generosity helped make both days possible.
Renewed in faith, formed in love and sent in mission, participants were encouraged to return to their parishes with a deeper appreciation of their calling to serve Christ and His Church.
