New Lectionary launches
A new edition of the Lectionary using the English Standard Version comes into use on the first Sunday of Advent
On the first Sunday of Advent (1 December 2024), a new edition of the Lectionary is being introduced in England and Wales.
This means the translations of the of the readings used at Mass are changing, as the new edition uses the English Standard Version.
When the decision was announced last year, Cardinal Arthur Roche, Prefect of the Dicastery said:
"The use of the English Standard Version – Catholic Edition, already in use in India, along with the Abbey Psalms and Canticles will help to ensure that the Word of the Lord reaches God’s holy people without alloy."
The Lectionary will use the Abbey Psalms and Canticles for text of the Responsorial Psalm.
You can find out more about the Lectionary at the Liturgy Office. The text of the Responsorial Psalms is available to composers who should contact the Liturgy Office.
