Successful pilgrimage to Aylesford for Jubilee celebrations

Congratulations to our pilgrims who made the 50 mile journey to Aylesford

After 5 days of battling the elements and walking 50 miles from St George’s Cathedral to the Friars, Aylesford the pilgrims arrived in time for the Jubilee celebrations.

The pilgrims set off on Monday 2 June after a pilgrim's Mass and blessing at St George's Cathedral. Travelling via Southwark Anglican Cathedral, Greenwich, Chislehurst, Lullingstone, Shoreham, St Edith's Well at Kemsing, Borough Green, Wrotham and Halling arriving in the afternoon of Friday 6 June at the Friars, Aylesford.

Over 80 people took part, with parishes from across the Archdiocese represented. Each day, a group had the task of transporting a St George statue - with photos shared along the journey.

Each began with Mass as the pilgrims journeyed on the steps of the Pilgrims' way to celebrate the eve of Pentecost together.

Morning Mass on Thursday 5 June was a particular highlight for the pilgrims, who received a much needed boost before a very rainy journey. Father Piotr Kucharski, parish priest in Sevenoaks, encouraged the pilgrims in his homily. Father Piotr said: “walk today, with Christ, who still walks the dusty roads of this world, looking for hearts willing to walk with Him”.

Photos taken by pilgrims on their journey can be seen below. The pilgrimage was organised by the Agency for Evangelisation and Catechesis. You can find out more about the route via their website: aec.rcaos.org.uk/pilgrimage2025

A huge congratulations to all who took part, whether for the full journey or just part of the way.
