Oscar Romero Award Mass Celebration March 2026
The Archdiocese of Southwark recently celebrated its 3rd Annual Oscar Romero Award Mass at St George’s Cathedral, presided over by Archbishop John Wilson. It was a joyful occasion, enriched by the uplifting music of Charlie Perry and the Southwark Schools Singing Programme, whose hymns beautifully supported the liturgy.
In his homily, Archbishop John invited everyone to follow Christ and stand for kindness, forgiveness, and peace, and to actively plant these values in our own lives and in the lives of others. Wearing the red chasuble of Archbishop Oscar Romero, he offered a powerful reminder of Romero’s martyrdom and the cost of working for justice and peace.
We were also pleased to welcome Mugeni Sumba, Coordinator of the Oscar Romero Award Trust, along with Trustees and Assessors for the Award. The Archdiocese of Southwark continues to lead the way, with the highest number of schools taking part in the award, including two schools currently working towards the Innovator Level. With nearly 90 schools already receiving the award, we look forward to next year’s Celebration, with even more schools engaged.
