Catholic generosity report presented to Pope Leo XIV
A parishioner from Our Lady of the Rosary, Brixton, recently met the Holy Father
Trustees from Catholics in Fundraising CIO, including a parishioner from Our Lady of the Rosary, Brixton, presented a landmark report on Catholic generosity to Pope Leo XIV in Rome.
The report, the first major study of Catholic generosity, philanthropy and stewardship in the United Kingdom, estimates that Catholic households hold around £1.2 trillion in wealth and contribute nearly £3 billion annually to charitable causes, while identifying opportunities to strengthen giving, ethical investment and legacy stewardship.
Presenting the report, John Green, a parishioner at Our Lady of the Rosary, Brixton, and Chair of Catholics in Fundraising, spoke of the importance of making the Church's teaching on wealth and stewardship better known among Catholics. Pope Leo thanked him for the report and the charity's work, remarking, "These things take time."
Trustees also expressed hope that, should Pope Leo visit the United Kingdom in future, he might consider addressing Catholics working in philanthropy, investment and charitable leadership.
Catholics in Fundraising say the report shows how Catholic Social Teaching offers a coherent framework linking philanthropy, investment and stewardship, and are calling for greater formation and support to help Catholics align their financial decisions with the Church's teaching.
